Mesquite Elementary students create award winning art for the Darion Wheat Child Abuse Awareness Foundation poster contest

Congratulations to the RISE After School students at Mesquite Elementary who recently participated in the Darion Wheat Child Abuse Awareness Foundation's poster contest.  Their artwork represents their ideas of how to prevent child abuse.  10 Mesquite students' artwork was selected to appear in the foundation's 2015-2016 calendar:

Challenger Middle School dance students to perform February 28, 2015

The Dancing Feet Youth Ballroom Dance Program will present “An Elementary Elegance Event”, Feb 28, 2015, at the Antelope Valley Fairgrounds, Van Dam Pavilion.  Doors open at 8:15. This event is open to the public cost of admission is $5 per competition session.  There will be three competition sessions; 5th Grade Dance Competition starts at 9:00 a.m., 7-8th Grade Dance Competition starts at 11:00 a.m., and the 6th Grade Dance Competition starts at 3:00 p.m.  There will be vendors on site and the concession stand will be open.

Congratulations to the volleyball players!

Congratulations to the students from Alpine, Antelope, Challenger, Daisy Gibson, Lake Los Angeles, and Pearblossom who played in the championship volleyball tournament on October 25th.  The sportsmanship and energy from the students and crowds was excellent.  

The Lake Los Angeles girls and Keppel Academy boys faced a lot of strong competition on the road to their first place victories.

RISE and Daisy Gibson School partner to offer STEM clubs after school

Daisy Gibson School is partnering with RISE to create an atmosphere of academic learning after school.  We will be formulating afterschool clubs around STEM-based programs that will allow our students a greater diversity of educational structure through a lens of learning based projects and activities that focus on both Common Core and NGSS standards.  

  • Robotics Club – students will have the opportunity to learn about automation and robotics hands – on with the prospect of competing on a national level in the Lego-first robotics competition later this year.
  • Engineering Club – students will learn the fundamentals of engineering using the engineer’s design process in order to ready themselves for this year’s multitude of STEAM Competitions such as Science Olympiad, Wind-Turbine, Solar Cook-Off, and the Daisy Gibson STEM Challenge
  • Forensics Club – students will solve crimes through the understanding of chemistry, anatomy, physics, and other sciences, all while using a prescribed scientific methodology that real forensic detectives used today
